GDG UCC ORGANIZES DEVFEST 2017

Have you ever heard of GDG? Well it stands for Google Developers Group. On the 25th of November, GDG University of Cape Coat organized #DEVFEST

Legacybase Online Magazine was there to capture the event.
GDG DEVFESTS are large community run developer events happening around the globe focused on community building and learning about Google’s Technologies.
An extended event was held on University of Cape Coast Campus specifically Sasakawa Conference Room, Cafeteria Road.


The event began with introductions and networking among community members followed by breakfast.
The GDG UCC Lead - Michael Baffu Amuah welcomed everyone and explained what Google Developers Group stood for. He showed videos on Google latest technologies for the year 2017 as well as keynote sessions.

MC for the program Dzifa Joyce lokko introduced the speakers for the program with style. There were times for interactions, code labs and people pitching applications they had created. There were five speakers for the event.

SPEAKER SESSIONS, PRESENTATIONS AND CODE LABS

  Ismail Dawud Ibrahim is a Computer Science Student and Software developer. Anything to do with Web technologies, embedded sysytems, C/C++, java and python programming. Dawud is your guy. He is a proud member of the Google Developers Group - University of Cape Coast. 
Dawud gave a speaker session on Flutter SDK. Dawud made the community note that Flutter is a mobile app SDK to help developers and designers build modern mobile apps for Andriod and IOS faster and with ease.

  Dennis Effah Amponsah is also a Computer Science Student and Software developer. As a member of the GDG Community he led the session on Tensor Flow. Dennis spelled out to the community that Tensor Flow was originally developed by researchers and engineers working on the Google Brain Team within Google's Machine Intelligence research organization for the purposes of conducting machine learning and deep neural networks research. He also did a code lab session on Tensor Flow.



  Meet Frank, your Android guy. Frank Afful Duodu is an android developer. Frank gave a speaker session on Android during the event. Frank enlightened the community based on statistics that as of the fourth quarter of 2016, Android leads the global market with a 91.7 percent market share while Apple’s IOS takes the 2nd position. 
He also said Android is also the most often used operating system for tablet computers worldwide, with a 66 percent share of the global market in 2016. Frank also presented his android app to the community and listened to reviews to help improve the app.


 Portia Sackey a CS student and entrepreneur led the Women in Tech session. She encouraged all women present with her own story as a Woman in Tech and Entrepreneur. Portia suggested to the guys to introduce and teach their sisters, girlfriends and friends Technology & Coding and how fast its rising in this era.

Michael Baffu Amuah a computer science student, blogger, Techpreneur and Lead for the Google Developers Group – University of Cape Coast led the Career Development session. MBA explained that a Techpreneur is a wild dreamer, visionary person and has the creative mind to see beyond the curves. 


He also said being technical, coding and passionate alone was not enough to be called a Techpreneur but rather possessing the basic business skills. In his presentation
he
said Ideas from the Global + Local = Glocal. 
He also did another presentation on Machine learning and cited that the Google Search Engine works on that.

EXTERNAL FEEDBACK ABOUT THE EVENT
      Attendees spoke about the fact that they never knew machine learning was the brain behind google search. They were excited about the organization of the program, the food and the fact that they got to learn new things. They also liked our publicity.

 
     They ladies among them said this time around women participated much with Portia leading the Women in Tech Session but the guys could also help them to do better next time by inviting ladies.
         The participants campaigned for more Google events in the community.







    
A co-organizer of the event Emmanuel Ohene Agyei-Gyekye advised the community to participate in GDG events since it adds great value to one’s life.

 He thanked the community members for participating in the event and led the closing session while lunch was being shared.
